Welcome
We’re so excited that you’ve come to join us!
We hope that your time with us would be a blessing to your entire family. It is our hope that your child will find our ministry to be a fun and safe place where they can worship God and learn about Him.
The vision of Broken Buns is simple; to know, grow in and show God’s love. It is our desire that your child would walk away having a deeper knowledge of Him and His Word, that they would grow in faith and learn how to engage the world in meaningful ways.
Our ministry is really supplemental to what ideally happens in every child’s home during the week. Therefore, we want to support parents as the primary nurturers to their faith by providing any support we can give, as parents seek to raise their children in an understanding of God’s goodness and grace.
If you have any questions regarding our ministry, please contact Hannah, our Children’s Ministry Director, at hannah@brokenbreadtoronto.com.
Our Program
Our children’s program includes children ages 2 to 12 and takes place during the adult worship service at 11:15 a.m.. Parents are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early to register their child and participate in the pre-program before service begins.
Upon arrival to Broken Buns, you will be encouraged to register your child and he or she will be given a temporary name tag. You will then receive a corresponding name tag which you will need in order to pick up your child. If you plan to be part of our children’s ministry on a regular basis, please let any of our volunteers know and we will make a permanent name tag for your child.
What to Expect
Main Service
Praise and Worship
We all meet in Room 129, where the children sing songs of praise to God in a large group setting.
Birthday Celebration
We sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to anyone who has had a birthday that week. There is a birthday box where children can choose a gift to take home.
Scripture Reading
We open the Bible and read the scripture passage together.
Sermon
The children listen to a brief message that goes along with the scripture passage.
Prayer
Small Groups
The children have a chance to engage with other children their own age and they are led in various age appropriate activities. Everyone is given snacks and we pray with the children at the end of small group time.
Our Values
Know
We believe that children have the ability to learn deep biblical truth at a young age. For this reason, we have chosen a curriculum that provides God-centered lessons that will equip them with a strong foundation of God’s truth and a biblical worldview. All those who participate in Broken Buns will learn who God is, who He has made us to be, His plans for us and this world and His work of salvation for His people. Our desire is that through the study of scripture the children as well as the leaders of broken buns will want to know and appreciate the value of God’s Word.
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” - Psalm 119:11
“Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
- Proverbs 22:6
Grow
It is our mission at Broken Buns to provide biblical teaching and instruction in a caring environment where children can draw closer to Jesus Christ and learn to seek Him earnestly. Our Godly teaching focuses on cultivating the heart to grow in love for God and trust in His promises, rather than just seeking to change behaviour.
Also, through the edification of fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ, children are able to engage in active dialogue about the truths they have learned in scripture as well as learn how to apply their faith in daily living.
We also celebrate the family as the primary environment where children are spiritually nurtured. Therefore, our children’s ministry is supplemental to what ideally happens in every child’s home during the week. We want to support parents by providing supplies and resources to encourage them as they raise their children up to obey and follow God.
“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
- Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Show
As the body of believers we exist to bless others simply because we have been blessed. Human life is utterly unique among all created life because humans are created in the image of the creator with the capacity to consciously enjoy and glorify God. The value of human life is the amazing potential to reflect the glory of God through faith and God-centered good deeds. We want children to explore how God has created them and how they can serve others with the talents God has given them. We also want to give the children opportunity to engage in meaningful Kingdom work and show them by example how to love, care for and serve those around them.
“Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.”
- 1 Timothy 4:12
